Fagiano Legend File No. 4 : Kengo KAWAMATA

He joined the club on a loan from the division 1 club, Albirex Niigata in 2012. He came to Okayama to gain playing experiences. At that time, he had no remarkable actual achievement in his career, therefore, he was expected to improve his strength.


He played only for the year of 2012, but this young forward fitted happily into the club and reinforced their attacking dramatically.


During the season, he had an established presence as an ace attacker. In the season, he appeared in 38 games and netted 18 goals. He was No.1 Japanese top scorer in the league. He made a great contribution to lead the club into eighth place of the league, that was the best performance in the club's history. Sadly, after the season, he returned to Niigata, and made a big breakthrough in the division 1. In 2015, he played for the national team.He now plays for Jubilo Iwata.

The club's transfer information #2 / 2017

After the end of the regular season, a former International, Kaji unveiled his retirement. He played for three years in Okayama and made a great contribution to the club. He would be missed by the
supporters.


The club made an agreement with Kaito ABE from Higashi Fukuoka high school. He is 182cm tall defender and expected to enhance the club's defensive strength.


A midfielder, Kentaro MATSUMOTO joined the club from Saga university. He is expected to play as a chance maker. 


Okayama acquired a young attacker, Duke Carlos from Kawasaki Frontale U18. He is expected to improve the team's offensive strength.


A young forward, Takeda comes to the club from Tokai Gakuen University. He is also expected to enhance the team's attacking.

Gainare Tottori ended up at the bottom

This season, Tottori were not able to get out of their slump. The team continued to perform poorly, hovering near the bottom along the term. In the end, the club fell into the bottom of the league.

During the season, the club's attackers revealed the lack of ability to score goals. Their total score of the season is 31, which is the worst in the campaign so that the team made only four victories out of 32 games in 2017.

Next year, the club try to be powerful enough to aim for the promotion to the upper league. It has been already announced that a veteran Brazilian forward, Fernandinho would be back in the club in a new season.

After the end of the regular season, Fagiano have started reorganizing the club. As of now, the club already announced that some of the players leave Okayama.


An experienced defender, Takeda is one of them. He is the longest-serving player for the club. He has played for the team for ten years. He is only one who played in Japan football league. when the club belonged to the league.


Another defender, Kukita also leave the club. He came to Okayama in 2011 from Tokyo university. This season, he has appeared at 27 matches with two goals.


An experienced defender, Kondo is not going to play for Okayama next year. He joined the team from the division 1 club, Urawa Reds in 2010. This team, he plays on a loan for Kataller Toyama in the division 3.


An attacker, Tanaka leaves Okayama too. In 2012, he made a deal with the club, coming from Keio university. Unfortunately, he didn't have lots of chances to appear as a first-choice.

Renofa Yamaguchi barely remained in the division 2

Yamaguchi struggled in a slump this year, ending up in the 20th place with 38 points. During the season, the club were mostly in the relegation zone. The head coach, Ueno left Yamaguchi because of the slump and an Argentine manager, CARLOS MAYOR joined the club.


Before this season, most main forces left the club, so that their first-chice players were quite different from the last year. In terms of their team work, they revealed the lack of ability to win.


This year, an ace striker, Kishida, the top scorer in 2015 J3 division league made a strong showing. He has scored seven goals this season. He is expected to play for the oranged-uniformed men as a goal scoring machine.

2017 Season Review: Failure to the promotion

Finally 2017 season ended. Fagiano Okayama finished at the 13rd position with 55 points out of 22 clubs. The club failed to advance to the playoffs, which was disappointed.

Before this season, some main forces such as a captain, Iwamasa, a goal keeper, Nakabayashi, a young playmaker, Yajima and an ace attacker, Oshitani left the club. Therefore, it was very difficult to
maintain the team's strength.

During the season, several main forces got injured and missed some matches. A veteran attacker, Akamine established a presence in an attacking area but he got injured twice so that he only appeared at 22 matches.

New comers such as a young attacker, Ishige and an experienced playmaker, Otake were not able to appear constantly as a first-choice. While, a goal keeper, Ichimori showed well-performance all the season.

This term, the club struggled to defeat some powerful clubs like former the division 1 clubs. In order to secure the ticket to the division 1 league in 2018, the club must be reinforced more. Okayama are expected to make an agreement with new talented players.

2017 Season Review:Defensive strength needs to be improved

This year, Fagiano displayed the lack of stability in defence. They conceded 49 goals of 42 matches. The number is worse than the last year, 44 goals. Most goals were conceded during the second period.

After former international, Iwamasa left Okayama, the red-uniformed defenders struggled to mark the rival's ace forwards. They had less matches with a clean sheet than the last year.

A goal keeper, Ichimori played constantly as the first-choice and showed lots of superb savings this season. His performances were obviously more than expected.

A young defender, Shinohara struggled to cover for the former captain, Iwamasa. It seems that he needs to be more calm during the game and next term, he is expected to lead the team's defenders.

An experienced defenders, Takeda and Kiyama performed solidly. A Korean defender, Jang Suk-won needed more chances to appear. The club are expected to acquire a tough defender to improve their defence
more next year.

2017 Season Review: Lack of shooting ability

Before 2017 season, an ace attacker, Oshitani left Okayama. Instead, the club acquired some talented attacker. However, their total score is 44 goals, which is less than the last year, 58 goals. The team revealed the lack of ability to win.

Okayama's top scorer is a veteran forward, Akamine. He scored ten goals with 22 appearances. He was the key player in attacking. He is highly expected to play for the club nex season.

A young attacker, Toyokawa scored eight goals. This term, he was not able to score ten more goals. He is on the loan from Kashima Antlers therefore, he might leave the team.

Other attackers such as Ito, Ishii and Otake were not able to play constantly becasue of injuries. A target man, Orsini made a great showing but the red-uniformed men had the one to create chances for those attackers.

In order to promote to the division 1 next year, their attacking strength needs to be more enhanced. The club are expected to aquire talented chance-maker.

This is the last match of this season. A young attacker, Ishige was back in the starting line-up. He was expected to play as a chance-maker. Another young striker, Toyokawa stood by as a substitute.
He was expected to finalize the game.


After the kickoff, Okayama aggressively kept pushing forward. In the 5th minute, a veteran, Akamine failed to receive a pass from a defender, Katayama. In the 16th minute, Ishige made an attempt. Two minutes later, he had another chance, but it was blocked by the rival. In the 24th minute, Akamine's shot was denied by Fukuoka's goal keeper.Two minutes later, a Korean attacker, Park's cross did not work well. In the 42nd minute, a goal keeper, Ichimori showed a superb saving. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.


Seven minutes after the break, the opponent's ace forward, Wellengton scored an opening goal with a header. Right after that, a target man, Orsini was sent onto the pitch. In the 59th minute, a captain, Kiyama stroke a nice equalizer. Later, more possession belonged to Fukuoka. In the 73rd minute, Ishige was replaced by Toyokawa. This fresh man tried to change the game. In the 85th minute, Otake came off the bench to finalize the match. During the added time, he failed to provide a pass with Toyokawa. The match ended in a tie. As a result, Okayama finished in the 13rd place this term.

In the 14th minute, a young attacker, Toyokawa's mid-range shot was off target. Eight minutes later, he had another chance, but he was not able to grasp it. Former Fagiano defender, Tadokoro plays for Yokohama FC. He has been almost ever-present at this match. A Brazilian playmaker, Leandro Domingues joined the club this summer. Since then, he's been ever-present as one of the key players.

Right after that, a goal keeper, Ichimori showed a superb saving, encourging his team mate. Otake aggressively kept pushing forward.  Later, more chances belonged to the rival. In the 31st minute, a captain, Kiyama stroke a long-ranged shot. Three minutes later, a young attacker, Ishige's free kick did not work well. In the 37th minute,
Okayama conceded an opening goal.


After the break, a defensive midfielder, Watanabe was replaced by a veteran defender, Sawaguchi. The red-uniformed men struggled to take the initiative. During the match, both clubs struggled to keep possession because of the heavy rainy. Afterwards, the topped club gradually took the initiative. In the 16th minute, a defender, Katayama took a header crossed by a young attacker, Ishige. Nine minutes later, Ishige's corner was denied by the opponent.　Two minutes later, his another corner didn't work well neither. In the 41st minute, a veteran forward, Akamine blazed the ball in the box, but it was blocked by the rival. Before the interval, Okayama conceded an opening goal.

During the match, Okayama struggled to take the initiative because of heavy rainy. In the 3rd minute, Ishige's free kick was off target. In the 12th minute, he tried to provide a cross, but it was denied by Gunma's goal keeper. In the 22nd second, his free kick was denied again. Six minutes later, a veteran, Sawaguchi tried to provide a cross, but another veteran, Akamine and Toyokawa were not able to grasp the chance. Afterwards, more chances belonged to the opponent. In the 36th minute, a goal keeper, Ichimori showed a fine saving. Right before the interval, Okayama conceded an opening goal.

On October 7, Hollyhock met the topped club of the league, Shonan Bellmare. During the match, more chances belonged to Shonan. As a result, Mito conceded three goals and were defeated.

After the kickoff, Okayama struggled to have more possession. The red-uniformed men made strong showing to block the opponent's attacking. In the 16th minute, Toyokawa tried to create a chance with his header. Five minutes later, a veteran, Akamine smashed the net, assisted by a rookie playmaker, Tsukagawa. In the 26th minute, a captain, Kiyama failed to make a cross for his teammates. Afterwards, the rival showed a successive attacking. In the 39th minute, the match was equalized. Before the break, Ishige's free kick was denied.


Seven minutes after the interval, Akamine nearly found the net. Later, the red-uniformed men conceded two goals. Unfortunately, at the last sec, a veteran forward, Akamine suffered severe cuts which take about 6 weeks to heal completely. An experienced midfielder, Watanabe was back in the starting line-up. A new comer, KIM Jong Min was listed as a substitute for the first time since he joined the club.


Eight minutes after the break, a captain, Kiyama's shot was blocked, however, a Korean attacker, Park stroke an opener. Five minutes later, he had another chance, but it was denied by Gifu's goalkeeper. An attacker, Ito tried to provide a cross with his free kick. Afterwards, more chances belonged to the opponent. In the 24th minute, Ito tried to strike a mid-range shot, but it was saved by the rival's goal keeper. The red-uniformed menstruggled to create chances. In the 37th minute, a goal keeper, Ichimori showed a superb defence. Five minutes later, Okayama almost added a second.

In the 38th minute, a goal keeper, Ichimori showed an excellent saving. Before the break, a veteran wingger, Sawaguchi nearly made a clincher, but his shot hit the post.

A Spanish striker, Juanma is the one to watch out for. He has already scored eight goals so far this term. He smashed the net against Okayama at the 11th sec. The red-uniformed defenders are required to stop him carefully in the box.


At the last sec, Nagasaki were defeated by Yokohama FC. During the match, more chances belonged to Yokohama, so that Nagasaki failed to obain points. An ace forward, Juanma couldn't score to clinch the game.

At Ajinomoto Stadium on July 9

I enjoyed Fagiano's away match at Ajinomoto Stadium, which is the home of Tokyo Verdy. The total attendance was 5,765. 

I like this stadium because most seats are covered by roof so that it is surely comfortable to enjoy a football match even when it is raining. 

The stadium can accommodate up to 49,970 people, therefore, it is spacious.

Next year, I wish to see Okayama beat the rival at this stadium since the match ended in a tie.

Match Preview 24th Sec : VS Renofa Yamaguchi at City Light Stadium on July 23

On June 11, during the match, the red-uniformed men aggressively pushed forward. Two minutes after the kickoff, an experienced defender, Kukita smashed the net. Later, Okayama created chances, but they were not able to add a second. After the break, Okayama struggled to possess a ball, however, they made a strong showing and successfully kept a clear sheet against the rival. 


An ace forward, Kishida is the key player. He has already scored five goals so far. Okayama are required to stop him doing his jobs in the box. Former Fagiano attacker, Okamoto has not been able to play constantly.


At the last sec, Yamaguchi faced Kamatamare Sanuki at PRIDE OF CHUSHIKOKU derby match. Yamaguchi aggressively kept pushing forward, scoring three goals even though they conceded an opening goal. As a result, Renofa beat the rival. It seems that the club's new coach, Carlos Alberto MAYOR is leading the team well.

Emperor's cup 2017:Defeat by Giant-killing

On July 12th, Okayama faced J league division 3 club, AC Nagano Parceiro in the rival's home stadium. At this sec, some players such as Takeda, Ito and Watanabe were back from an injury list, therefore the club were expected to beat Nagano.


Contrary to expectations, headcoach, Nagasawa's gameplan didn't work well. During the match, the red-uniformed men struggled to take the initiative of the game. While, former Fagiano attacker, Kobayashi and his teammate, Sato aggressively kept pushing forward.


After the break, Okayama conceded an opening goal and later, they were not able to equalize the game. As a result, Nagasawa's men were defeated and missed the chance to meet the division 1 club at Emperor's cup 2017

In the 14th minute, a young striker, Ishige's shot was ballooned miles over the bar. Two minutes later, he was not able to grasp another chance. In the 27th minute, a veteran, Akamine tried to change the game, but it didn't work well. Afterwards, both clubs struggled to create chances. The first period ended in a scoreless tie.


A minute after the break, a Korean attacker, Park's shot was off target. Three minutes later, a rookie playmaker, Tsukagawa made a fantastic opener. In the 59th minute, a goal keeper, Ichimori showed a nice saving. In the 68th minute, Ishige was replaced by an experienced midfielder, Watanabe. Match Preview 23th Sec : VS Zweigen Kanazawa at Ishikawa Athletics Stadium on July 15

At the 7th sec, Okayama struggled to take the initiative of the game. During the match, a goal keeper, Ichimori showed several fine savings to encourage his teammates. However, right before the end of the match, the red-uniformed men shockingly conceded a clincher and obtained no point. 



An experienced forward, Sato is a key player. He has already scored nine goals with 22 appearances so far. The red-uniformed defenders are required to mark him with an extra care. Former Fagiano defender, Noda is expected to play as a starter.


On July 8, Kanazawa faced the top-placed club, Avispa Fukuoka. During the match, Zweigen aggressively kept pushing forward. Kanazawa's playmaker, Sugiura scored two goals, bringing a victory to his team. Kanazawa now stay in the 17th place with 28 points.

Seven minutes after the kickoff, a young attacker, Ishige's free kick was denied. Three minutes later, his corner was cleared by the rival again. In the 13rd minute, a goal keeper, Ichimori showed a fine saving. In the 20th minute, a rookie playmaker, Tsukagawa almost found the net. In the 31st minute, he failed to provide a cross. In the 40th minute, a young striker, Toyokawa smashed the net with a superb opener, provided by an attacker, Katayama. Later, a playmaker, Sekido tried to add a second,　but it was blocked by Verdy's keeper.


Three minutes after the break, Toyokawa tried to provide a cross. Afterwards, Okayama's defenders made a good showing. In the 65th minute, Ishige stroke a mid-ranged shot, but it was off target. After that, a veteran forward, Akamine was not able to grasp a chance with his cross. In the 75th minute, Fagiano　conceded an equalizer. Later, a head coach, Nagasawa sent three men, Fujimoto, Otake and Kukita to finalize the match. In the 83rd minute, Akamine nearly scored a clincher, passed by Otake. During the added time, Otake's corner did not worked well, therefore, Okayama were not able to defeat the rival.

Match Preview 22th Sec : VS Tokyo Verdy at Ajinomoto Stadium on July 9

On April 2, Okayama were disappointedly defeated by Tokyo. The red-uniformed attackers aggressively pushed forward to make an opening goal, however, During the second half, the rival's defender, Anzai scored a clincher. Later, Okayama were not able to equalize the match. 


As of now, Tokyo stay in the fifth place with 34 points, four points ahead of Okayama. Verdy's top scorer is a Brazilan attacker, Alan Lopes Pinheiro. He has already scored nine goals so far.  Okayama's defenders are required to mark him with an extra care.


At last sec, Tokyo faced Roasso Kumamoto. During the match, they showed a poor performance. Tokyo had less possession and chances, while, Kumamoto scored four goals in the driving seat. Verdy were shockingly defeated by Roasso.

Emperor's cup 2017:The club advanced to the third round

On June 21st, Okayama made a thin victory against Japan football club, Imabari FC in penalty kicks. At the match, some products of the club such as Ishikawa, Kato, played as a starter and showed good performances. However, during the game, they couldn't get a game-deciding score.


At the next round on July 12th, the red-uniformed men face, J league division 3 club, AC Nagano Parceiro in the rival's home stadium. Nagano made a giant-killing against division 1 powerful club, FC Tokyo at the second round.


In Nagano, there are two former Okayama attackers, Arata and Kobayashi. They can be ones to watch out for. The match is expected to be heated and tough.

Okayama's head coach, Nagasawa placed the same starting line-up as the last sec. A young attacker, Fujimoto was listed on the reserve list. He was expected to play as a chance-taker. While, Mito's key player, Maeda played as a starter.


During the match, Okayama took the initiative of the game. In the 3rd minute, a Korean attacker, Park tried to open the score with his header, crossed by a young attacker, Ishige. Four minutes later, a playmaker, Sekido's attempt was blocked by the opponent. In the 17th minute, another playmaker, Tsukagawa's header hit the bar. Two minutes later, Ishige almost found the net. In the 23rd minute, Akamine stroke an excellent header, bringing the home club an opener. Afterwards, the visitors　aggressively kept pushing forward. In the 44th minute, Ishige failed to add a second. Before the break, a goal keeper, Ichimori showed a fine saving.

Last season, Hollyhock ended up in the 13th place and performed better than expected. This term, the team aim for the mid-table of the division 2 league even though some main forces such as Peruvian attacker, Romero Frankleft left the club before this season.


This season, Mito made a deal with Matsumoto Yamaga's attacker, Maeda on a loan. This season, he has been in a good shape. He has already scored seven goals. He can be the one to watch out for.


On June 25, after the kickoff, Mito aggressively pushed forward against Kamatamare Sanuki , however, the first half ended in a scoreless tie. After the interval, both clubs scored one goal. Later, during the added time, Mito's attacker, Funatani made a clincher, bringing his team five victories in a row. Mito now stay in the fourth place of the division 2.

In the 19th minute, the veteran forward took a header, but it was denied. Three minutes later, a goal keeper, Ishimori showed a fine saving. In the 25th minute, Okayama's defenders barely blocked Ishihara's shot. In the 37th minute, Akamine was not able to grasp a chance in the box. Two minutes later, the red-uniformed men conceded an opening goal.


After the break, Okayama struggled to create chances. In the 49th minute, Toyokawa tried to equalize the game. Ten minutes later, he had another chance, but it was not successful. Matsumoto are one of the title hopefuls in the division 2 league. Last year, the rival finished in the 3rd place and were defeated by Okayama at the semi-final in the playoffs. In order for Fagiano to chase the top group, they are expected to beat the opponent again.


As of now, two former Fagiano men such as an attacker, Ishihara and an experienced defender, Goto played for Matsumoto. They have been almost ever-present this season and can be the ones to watch out for since these two men know well about Okayama.


At the last sec, Matsumoto aggressively pushed forward, taking the initiative of the game. In the 21st minute, Matsumoto's ace striker, Takasaki grabbed an opening goal. After the break, Yamaga added a second, securing their victory.

Seven minutes later, a young playmaker, Tsukagawa tried to make an opener, crossed by a young attacker, Ishige. In the 18th minute, Tsukagawa failed to grasp another chance. In the 28th minute, a young striker, Toyokawa tried to create a chance. Four minutes later, a young attacker, Katayama took the long-ranged throw in, but it didn't work well. In the 40th minute, Shinohara pushed forward and tried to make a chance, but it was blocked by the opponent. Four minutes later, Ishige's corner was denied. The first period ended in a scoreless tie.

Match Preview 19th Sec : VS FC Gifu at City Light Stadium on June 17

Last season, the club barely made it to remain in the division 2 league, ending up in the 20th place. After the season, most of their players left the club. Even though their priority this year is to avoid relegation, Gifu have been doing better than expected.


In 2017, the club made an agreement with a head coach, Oki, who used to work for Kyoto Sanga and Ventforet Kofu as a coach. The rival acquired a talented playmaker, Shoji. He can be the one to trigger the team's offence. He has scored two goals this term.


On June 11, Gifu faced Ehime FC. During the match, Oki's men struggled to take the initiative of the match. After the break, Gifu conceded two goals, and as a result, the club were defeated. Okayama are expected to beat the rival, in order to chase the top group.

Emperor's cup 2017:The club meet FC Imabari at the second round

The long-awaited Emperor's cup is going to take place soon. It is known that the cup winner is qualified to AFC Champions League. Since Fagiano belong to the division 2 now, this is an only chance for the club to obtain the spot.


This year, Okayama face Imabari FC at City Light Stadium on June 21st. The rival belong to Japan Football League, aiming for J League division 3. Imabari defeated the division 3 club, FC Ryukyu at the first round of this composition.


This match, Okayama's head coach, Nagasawa is expected to place some fresh men in the starting line-up. I personally expect to see a young striker, Ishikawa, the product of the club's academy.
