2020 Season Review:Some players were constantly sidelined throughout the season

In 2020, Okayama finished at the 17th position with 50 points out of 22 club. The club constantly struggled around the mid-table and were not able to compete for the promotion.


In covid-19 pandemic, all of the J League clubs faced difficulties due to the tight schedule. Therefore, during the season, the club constantly had some players on an injury list so that it was tough to place best players in the starting line-up.


2019 top scorer of the club, LEE Yong-Jae was one of them who missed some matches due to his injury. He only scored six goals in 2020, less than 12 goals in 2019. Other attackers, Uejo and Yamamoto scored seven and six goals respectively, but there were no players with more than ten goals this season.


It has been already announced that the club would not extend the contracts with veteran players such as Ueda, Akamine and Goto. Therefore, the club are expected to sign with some young talents to enhance their strength.

This was the last match of this season.  Four veteran players, Mukuhara, Goto, Ueda and Akamine were listed in the starting line-up. It was the last match for them in the red-uniform. 

 

Two minutes after the kickoff, Ueda's mid-range shot was off target. In the 13th minute, his corner was blocked by the home club. In the 31st minute, Shirai smashed the net with a superb opener, assisted by Uejo. Five minutes later, Mukuhara failed to add a second. Right before the interval, Hamada doubled their lead with his excellent strike.

A minute after the break,  Yamamoto's attempt was denied by the opponent. In the 57th minute, Ueda missed the chance to add a third with his free kick. In the 67th minute, Abe was on for Akamine. In the 83rd minute, goal keeper, Kanamaya showed an amazing saving.  During the added time, he made another fine saving. As a result, the red-uniformed men successfully defeated the rival.

At the 19th sec, Okayama host Kofu. After the kickoff, Okayama aggressively kept pressuring against the rival. In the 2nd minute, Hamada missed the chance to find the net. In the 18th minute, Uejo's attempt was off target. Seven minutes after the break, Ueda came off the bench to change game. In the 77th minute, Shimoguchi nearly smashed the net. Afterwards, they were not able to clinch the game. The match ended in a scoreless tie.

This sec, veteran goal keeper, Kanayama started the game for the first time this season.  An experienced centre back, Hamada was back as a starter. 

After the kickoff, Okayama struggled to create chances. In the 16th minute, Uejo's cross was blocked by the opponent. Seven minutes later, Okayama conceded an opening goal.  In the 28th minute, Yamamoto's header was off target.  Afterwards, the visitors had a possession but couldn't create chances. 

Three minutes after the break, Saito almost made an equalizer, but it was blocked by former Fagiano goal keeper, Matsubara. In the 63rd minute, Uejo missed the chance to equal the game.  A minute later, Akamine came off the bench to change the game.  However, in the 86th minute, the red-uniformed men conceded a clincher. During the added time, Fukumoto couldn't smash the net with his header.

On August 22nd, Okayama welcomed Gunma. In the 20th minute, Uejo nearly smashed the net. In the 42nd minute. he made his effort to change the game. The first half ended in a scoreless tie. Three minutes after the break, LEE Yong-Jae almost found the net. In the 55th minute, the home club conceded an opening goal. During the added time, Mimura missed the chance for an equalizer.

This sec, young centre back, Abe started the game. Veterean playmaker, Uda was back in the starting line-up. Another veteran striker, Akamine stood by as a substitute to change the game. 

Two minutes after the kickoff, Okayama conceded an opening goal. Afterwards, the visitors struggled to attack forward. In the 19th minute, the opponent added a second. In the 25th minute, Popp William showed a fine saving. Later, the red-uniformed men were mostly forced to play on their own side. 

Abe was replaced by Hamada. In the 52nd minute, Uejo's strike was denied by Yamagata's goal keeper, Fujishima.  In the 65th minute, his another attempt was off target.  Afterwards, the visitors struggled to create chances. In the 87th minute, Akamine was on for Saito, but Okayama could not smash the net.

Okayama host Yamagata on September 23rd. Three minutes after the kickoff, goal keeper, Popp William made a fine saving. In the 34th minute, Shimizu was replaced by Saito due to his injury. The first half ended in a scoreless tie. Four minutes after the break, Saito smashed the net with his spectacular header, crossed by Shirai. In the 80th minute, the game was equalized by the opponent. In the 87th minute, Paulinho almost found the net. Four minutes later, he made a clincher with a penalty. The red-uniformed men successfully obtained three points.

This sec, Shirai was back as a starter. Former Ryukyu men, Tokumoto and Uejo were listed in the starting line-up. Ueda stood by as a substitute. 

After the kickoff, Okayama struggled to have a possession. In the 5th minute, Tokumoto's cross was blocked by the opponent. In the 25th minute, Popp William showed a fine saving. Afterwards, Arima's men were mostly forced to play on their own side. In the 40th minute, LEE Yong-Jae nearly smash the net with his mid-range shot. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.

11 minutes after the break, Saito almost opened the score. Two minutes later, head coach, Arima sent three men, Yamamoto, Sekido and Ueda onto the pitch. In the 25th minute, a penalty was given to the visitors. Ueda scored an opening goal. In the 81st minute, the red-uniformed men conceded an equalizer. In the 88th minute, Shimizu was on for Saito to clinch the game, but the match ended in a tie.

At the 9th sec, Okayama welcomed Ryukyu. During the match, Okayama struggled to have a possession. The home club had few chances, however, Mimura smashed the net, encouraging his team mates. Afterwards, the game remained the same. Arima's men showed a solid defense against the rival. Mimura and Shimizu were replaced by Sekido and Lee Yong-Jae respectively to change the game. However, in the 59th minute, Ryukyu made an equalizer with their free kick. In the 84th minute, it was turned around by the visitors. As a result, the red-uniformed men dropped three points.

This sec,  two veteran players, Tanaka and Akamine were back in the starting line-up. It'd been announced that Akamine leaves the club after the season. He was expected to score his first goal this term. 

 

In the 12th minute, Hamada tried to find the net from their set pieces. Later, Okayama aggressively kept attacking forward, but they struggled to create chances. In the 41st minute, LEE Yong-Jae nearly opened the score, crossed by Ueda. While, the red-uniformed defenders made efforts to keep a clean sheet until the break. 

 

Four minutes after the interval, Saito's  attempt was side-netted.  In the 53rd minute, the home club conceded an opening goal. In the 58th minute, LEE Yong-Jae stroke an excellent equalizer with his header.  Three minutes later, Shirai and Shimizu were on for Ueda and Akamine.  However, afterwards, they struggled to clinch the game. As a result, the match ended in a tie.

On July 25th, Okayama visited Fukuoka. During the first half, Okayama struggled to create chances. In the 40th minute, Arima's men conceded an opening goal.In the 59th minute, An experienced playmaker, Ueda almost found the net with his free kick. Six minutes later, goal keeper, Popp William made a fine saving. The red-uniformed men failed to equalize the game despite their efforts.

Three minutes after the kickoff, Saito entered the box, and tried to open the score but it hit the post. In the 13rd minute, LEE Yong-Jae headed off target. Four minutes later, Tokumoto nearly smash the net with his mid-range shot. In the 21st minute, Arima's men conceded an opener.  In the 35th minute, LEE Yong-Jae missed the chance to equalize the game. In the 41st minute, Shimizu's attempt was over the cross bar.  Three minutes later, LEE Yong-Jae's header was saved by rival's keeper. 

After the break, Shimoguchi came off the bench. In the 59th minute, Shimizu failed to make an equalizer, provided by LEE Yong-Jae. In the 66th minute, Uejo showed a superb equalizer, assisted by Saito. In the 75th minute, head coach, Arima sent three men, Sekido, Akamine and Yamamoto. Two minutes later, Hamada missed the chance to clinch the game with his header. During the added time, Yamamoto's header his the post. The game ended in a tie.

At the 4th sec, Okayama hosted Kitakyushu. During the match, the home club struggled to take the control. In the 21st minute, Shimizu tried to open the score. In the 35th minute, Ueda's free kick was saved by the keeper again. The first half ended in a scoreless tie. Three minutes after the break, Lee Yong-Jae nearly found the net. In the 61st minute, Arima's men conceded an opener. two minutes later, the red-uniformed men conceded a second. As a result, they dropped points.

During the match, Okayama aggressively kept attacking forward. 13 minutes after the kickoff, Tokumoto stroke a mid-range attempt, but it was blocked by the opponent. Two minutes later, Uejo opened the score with his superb strike.  In the 33rd minute, Abe tried to create chance from their set-pieces. In the 36th minute, Tokumoto missed to hit the target. Before the break, Popp William made a fantastic saving. 

Nine minutes after the kickoff, Uejo failed to add a second. In the 61st minute, the match was equalized by the rival. Three minutes later, Akamine was replaced by Shimizu. In the 76th minute, he added a second with his excellent header. However, three minutes later, the game was equalized again. In the 87th minute, Okayama  conceded a clincher.  Afterwards, the red-uniformed men were not able to equalize the game.

Okayama visited Tochigi on August 12th. Right after the kickoff, a corner was given to Okayama. Noguchi smashed the net from the corner. In the 25th minute, CHOI Jung Won was sent off and a penalty was given to the rival.The game was equalized.  In the 68th minute, goal keeper, Popp William made a fine saving. During the added time, the red-uniformed men conceded a clincher.

This sec, a rookie midfield player, Noguchi was back in the starting line-up.  Korean ace striker, LEE Yong-Jae was expected to score a goal for two games in a row.  Former Fagiano playmaker, Tsukagawa was listed on the reserve list.  

Three minutes after the kickoff, Paulinho failed to hit the target. In the 11th minute, a goal keeper, Popp William made a superb saving. Four minutes later, Paulinho's mid-range attempt was blocked by the opponent. In the 18th minute, Okayama conceded an opener. Afterwards, they struggled to created chances. Before the break, Paulinho was not able to shoot the target.  

After the interval, the game remained the same. In the 65th minute, Uejo's strike was ballooned miles over the bar.  Two minutes later, he almost smash the net. In the 69th minute, Yamamoto and Akamine came off the bench to change the game. During the added time, another substitute, Fukumoto missed the chance to equalize the game.

During the match, Okayama aggressively kept going forward. In the 7th minute, Uejo's cross was blocked by the opponent. In the 14th minute, LEE Yong-Jae nearly found the net. In the 24th minute, he missed another chance to open the score.  In the 39th minute, Ueda's free kick did not work well.  Right before the interval, Tanaka almost smashed the net with his header. 

 

Two minutes after the break, LEE Yong-Jae missed the chance for an opener.  In the 61st minute, Shimoguchi was on for Mukuhara. In the 63rd minute, the home club conceded an opening goal by Nakano. Four minutes later, Akamine came off the bench to change the game. In the 72nd minute, LEE Yong-Jae stroke a fantastic equalizer with his header.  In the 83rd minute, LEE Yong-Jae was replaced by Yamamoto to clinch the game. However, the red-uniformed men were not able to conclude the match. The game ended in a tie.

On July 5, Okayama visited Iwata. In the 13rd minute, Mukuhara made a cross to an attacker, Shimizu, waiting close to the opponent's box. He smashed the net with a superb opener. In the 21st minute, In the 40th minute, an ace forward, Lee Yong-Jae almost added a second. In the 70th minute, the game was equalized by the former division 1 club. Afterwards, the visitors struggled to create chances while their defenders showed a valid defense and barely made it tie.

In the 35th minute, LEE Yong-Jae missed the chance to equalize the game. Four minutes later, the opponent added a second. 

Three minutes after the break, Okayama conceded a third. In the 56th minute, Ueda's free kick was denied by Nagasaki.  In the 79th minute, the rival score a fourth. Three minutes later, Akamine came off to change the game but it remained the same. The red-uniformed men conceded a fifth. During the added time, Uejo was not able to smash the net.

As a result, they failed to get points.

In the 23rd minute, goal keeper, Popp William showed an excellent saving. In the 28th minute, Saito entered the box, but his cross was blocked by the opponent. In the 42nd minute, Popp William made another superb saving. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.

14 minutes after the break, Noguchi was replaced by Yamamoto. However, Okayama struggled to create chances. In the 61st minute, Brazilian playmaker, Paulinho couldn't hit the target with his mid-range shot. In the 76th minute, Ueda was on for Paulinho. In the 84th minute, Uejo almost smashed the net. During the added time, Yamamoto missed the chance to clinch the game, crossed by Shimoguchi. As a resultm, both clubs shared a point.

This sec,  head coach, Arima placed six changes in the starting line-up. An experienced centre back, Hamada missed the match due to his injury. Former Fagiano playmaker, Shimada started the game. 

During the match, Okayama struggled to have a possession. Three minutes after the kickoff, a goal keeper, Popp William showed a fine saving. In the 10th minute, Uejo's attempt was blocked by the opponent's goal keeper. In the 22nd minute, Popp William made another superb saving. In the 45th minute, Yamamoto nearly found the net with his header. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.

 

After the break,  Saito came off  the bench. Afterwards, the game remained unchanged. Okayama struggled to create chances. In the 77th minute, Popp William made a good blocking. In the 81st minute, Saito smashed the net with his excellent strike. However, six minutes later, the game was equalized. During the added time, Uejo was not able to clinch the match. As a result, both club shared a point.

This sec, veteran players, Tanaka and Saito were back as a starter. Another veteran forward, Akamine missed the match due to his leg injury. 

 

Five minutes after the kickoff, Sekido made an attempt, but it was blocked by Omiya's defender. Seven minutes later, the home club conceded an opener.  In the 17th minute, Sekido was not able to grasp another chance. In the 19th minute, Popp William showed an amazing saving. In the 34th minute, Mimura almost found the net. 

 

Four minutes after the kickoff, Saito failed to hit the target. In the 59th minute, Shirai stroke an equalizer with his fantastic mid-range shot. Three minutes later, a substitute, Yamamoto added a second with his superb strike. In the 64th minute, Shirai scored an excellent clincher. In the 73rd minute, Omiya added a second. In the 84th minute, young players, Noguchi and Matsuki came off the bench. As a result, the red-uniformed men successfully defeated the former division 1 club for the first time in the club's history.

Four minutes after the break, the game was equalized by the rival. In the 53rd minute, Lee Yong-Jae nearly made a clincher, provided by Sekido. In the 64th minute, Saito came off the bench to change the game. In the 79th minute, Uejo's free kick was blocked by Kyoto. Afterwards, they couldn't score to clinch the game.

Right after the kickoff, Lee Yong-Jae tried to smash the net. In the 8th minute, a rookie midfielder, Noguchi showed a mid-range shot. Afterwards, Okayama struggled to create chances. In the 40th minute, Arima's men conceded an opening goal. Later, they failed to make it tie before the break.


After the interval, Noguchi was replaced by Sekido. In the 59th minute, An experienced playmaker, Ueda almost found the net with his free kick. Six minutes later, goal keeper, Popp William made a fine saving. In the 68th minute, two forwards, Saito and Yamamoto came off the bench. Later, Akamine was also sent onto the pitch. However, the red-uniformed men failed to equalize the game despite their efforts.

This sec, rookie midfield player, Noguchi started the game, replacing Sekido. While, former Fagiano playmaker, Otake was listed on the reserve list.


After the kickoff, the home club struggled to have possession. In the 13rd minute, goal keeper, Popp William showed a fine saving. Eight minutes later, left back, Tokumoto made a fantastic opener, provided by Ueda. In the 34th minute, Popp William showed another good saving. Two minutes later, Uejo tried to add a second.


Three minutes after the interval, Ueda's free kick was cleared by the opponent. In the 64th minute, Otake came off the bench. Nine minutes later, he made an equalizer. In the 78th minute, the visitors turned it round. Afterwards, Head coach, Arima sent three attackers such as Shimizu, Saito and Akamine to equalize the game, but they failed to get points.

In 2019, Nagasaki stayed in the mid-table of the league. As a result, the outfit failed to get back to the division 1. This year, they target the ticket to the upper league. 


The rival have been unbeaten since the season starts. Former Fagiano attacker, Otake made the first appearancein this season at the last sec against FC Ryukyu. He is the one of key players who can trigger Nagasaki's attacking.

This sec, veteran centre back, Tanaka was back as a starter from his suspension. An attacker, Yamamoto started the game for the first time since the opening match this season.


Seven minutes after the kickoff, Uejo tried to smash the net, provided by Shirai. In the 15th minute, Korean poacher, Lee Yong-Jae almost found the net. three minutes later, he was not able to grasp another chance. In the 27th minute, Uejo's free kick ballooned over the bar. Afterwards, Arima's men struggled to create chances. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.


Two minutes after interval, Lee Yong-Jae's header was off target. In the 55th minute, Yamamoto made an excellent opener, assisted by Uejo. Ten minutes later, he was replaced by veteran forward, Saito. In the 80th minute, veteran playmaker, Ueda nearly added a second. As a result, the red-uniformed men successfully kept a clean sheet.
