2021 Season Review:The club showed the hope for the next season

In 2021, Okayama finished in the 11th position with 59 points out of 22 club. The club constantly stayed around the mid-table and were not able to compete for the promotion.


During the first half of the season, the club struggled to obtain points, however, the red-uniformed men barely stayed in the mid table throughout the season since their defenders made a strong showing with only 36 goals conceded, which is the second best in the league.


During the summer, the club signed with some attacking talents such as Ishige and Mitchell Duke. They made a great contribution to enhace the club's offensive strength. The former scored six goals and the latter scored three respectively. The club's performance during the second half of the season gives the hope for the upcoming season.


It has been already announced that the club would not extend the contracts with veteran players such as Shiina, Tanaka. Therefore, the club are expected to sign with some young talents to enhance their strength.

The club's transfer information #3 / 2021

An experienced forward, Yamamoto leaves the club. He joined the club in the summber of 2019. His shooting ability helped a lot.  


The club won't extend the contract with Brazilian striker, Brenner Marlos for the next season. He came to Okayama in the summer of 2021, but he couldn't play the game a lot.  

Head coach, Arima departs from Okayama. He led the club for three years. His leadership and experiences helped a lot to improve the club's strength.

Another new signing is Tanaka from Waseda University. This young midfield player has played for U18 international. He can be the one to improve the club's strength.


Veteran defender, Tanaka won't play for the club next year. He came to Okayama in 2019. Since then, he has been the one whom the club's youngsters should learn. 

An experienced side back, Masutani leaves the club. He joined the club in the summber of 2019. However, he has suffered from injuries mostly during his time in Okayama.

The club's transfer information #1 / 2021

The club signed with a young goal keeper, Taniguchi from Hitachi high school. He is 194cm tall and has a superb ball-keeping skills. He might play as the first choice in the near future.


Young playmaker, Sano joins the club from Yonago Nishi High school. He is from Tsuyama city in Okayama prefecture. He can be the one to cover up for veteran playmakers, Kiyama and Paulinho in the future. 

One-club man, Shiina leaves the club. This veteran goal keeper joined the club in 2009 and made an establish presence there.

This is the last match of this season. Head coach, Arima placed the same starting line-up as the last sec.  Arima's men seemed highly motivated to see the coach off with their victory at the last game, led by him as a head coach.


Three minutes after the kickoff, free kick was given to the home club. Ishige tried to find the net with his set-pieces. Right after that, Abe tried to open the score, crossed by Miyazaki. Paulinho's mid-range shot was off target. Afterwards, Okayama struggled to have have a ball possession. At the end of the first half, the home club conceded an opening goal.


Four minutes after the break, Chiba added a second. In the 53th minute, LEE Yong-Jae came off the bench to change the game. In the 60th minute, Umeda showed a fine saving. Three minutes later, the red-uniformed men conceded a third. Later, they still struggled to keep pushing forward. In the 86th minute, Kawano's attempt was off target. During the added time, LEE Yong-Jae smash the net, but Okayama lost to the rival.

Match Preview 42nd Sec : VS JEF United Chiba at City Light Stadium on December 5

On May 9th, Okayama had a miserable defeat against Chiba. In the 22nd minute, the visitors conceded an opening goal. In the 25th minute, Kawamoto stroke an excellent equalizer. However, two minutes later, Chiba added a second. Later, Arima's men struggled to dominate the game.  Four minutes after the break, a penalty was given to the rival and they added third. In the 85th minute, the red-uniformed men conceded a clincher. Afterwards, during the added time, Hikida smash the net, but it was too late. The game ended in 2 - 4.


This is the last match of this season so that Okayama are expected to defeat the rival and bring a joy to their fans at City Light Stadium.

After the kickoff, Okayama aggressively kept pushing forward. In the 14th minute, Uejo missed the first scoring chance. In the 26th minute, Ishige failed to make a cross to his teammates. In the 30th minute, Inoue's header was slightly over the bar. In the 43th, Kawano nearly found the net, but it was denied by Nagasaki's keeper. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.


LEE Yong-Jae was on for Tokumoto. In the 47th minute, Ishige showed an excellent opening goal. Two minutes later, Mitchell Duke's strike was off target. In the 68th minute, Umeda made a fine saving. In the 80th minute, Mitchell Duke missed the chance to add a second. Right after that, he was replaced by Kimura. Afterwards, the red-uniformed men made efforts to keep a clean sheet.

On May 3rd, Okayama welcomed Nagasaki. After the kickoff, the home club struggled to attack forward. In the 30th minute, Shirai's attempt was blocked by the opponent. In the 37th minute, Arima's men conceded an opening goal. In the 60th minute, Kawamoto missed a goal-scoring chance. Five minutes later, Kawano almost equalized the game. In the 79th minute, Uejo's strike was denied by the rival's goal keeper. As a result, the red-uniformed men lost to the former division 1 club.


One of the key players, veteran, Tokura. He is good at heading so if the target man comes off the bench at the end of the game, he can be the threat for Okayama.

Two minutes after the kickoff, LEE Yong-Jae made the fist shot in the game. In the 6th minute, he almost found the net with his header, but Kyoto's goal keeper made a fine saving. In the 13th minute, Uejo nearly opened the score. In the 31st minute, Ishige was not able to receive a long-range pass in the box. Uejo's strike was ballooned over the bar. In the 44th minute, Inoue missed the chance for an opener from their corner. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.  


One minute after the break, Ishige tried to open the score. Afterwards, the home club aggressively kept pushing forward. In the 61st minute, Uejo nearly smash the net. Former Fagiano playmaker, Takeda has been constantly present so far this season. He has made an established presence in Kyoto. He can be the one to watch out for.

Four minutes after the kickoff, the visitors conceded an opening goal. In the 11th minute, Umeda showed a fine saving, encouraging his team mates. Two minutes later, Ishige equalized the game with his fantastic volley. In the 18th minute, his strike was denied by Sagamihara's goal keeper. In the 22nd minute, Uejo's header was off target. The first half ended in a tie.


Five minutes after the interval, Okayama conceded a second. In the 55th minute, Inoue tried to equalize the game with his header. In the 63rd minute, Kimura and LEE Yong-Jae came off the bench to change the game. In the 67th minute, LEE Yong-Jae made it tie with his superb strike. In the 79th minute, Uejo smash the net with his excellent clincher. During the added time, Sagamihara sent Goto as a target man onto the pitch. On March 14th, Okayama visited Sagamihara. Six minutes after the kickoff, Shirai nearly found the net. Later, the visitors aggressively kept pushing forward, but they couldn't open the score. During the season, Sagamihara signed with new head coach, Takagi, in order to make a change. Their mission this season is to survive in the division 2. The red-uniformed men are required to be well-prepared against the rival club.

After the break, the red-uniformed men were mostly forced to deal with Yamagata's pressure, however, they successfully obtained the three points.


Yamagata's key player is a young forward, Hayashi. He signed with Yamagata before this season and he has been constantly-present so far. He has got an amazing shooting ability so that the red-uniformed men are required to mark him with an extra care.

After the kickoff, the opponent had more ball possession. In the 8th minute, the free kick was given to Okayama. Mitchell Duke was able to grasp the chance with his superb header. Two minutes later, Uejo successfully added a second with his brilliant attacking. Afterwards, the red-uniformed men showed solid defence even through they struggled to have more ball possession.


After the break, the remained the same. In the 55th minute, Arima's men conceded a goal. Three minutes later, Arima sent three fresh men onto the pitch. One of these, Kimura aggressively tried to push forward to change the game. In the 78th minute, the visitors failed to add a third with their free kick. Later, Okayama made efforts to stop the rival's attacking and obtained three points.

On July 3rd, Okayama were defeated by Kofu. During the match, Okayama struggled to control the game. In the 32nd minute, the home club conceded an opener. Matsumoto are now on the survival race so that the rival are expected to be highly motivated for this sec with new head coach, Nanami. Okayama should be careful about that.

This summer, Tokyo's assistant coach, Hori was appointed as new head coach due to the departure of head coach, Nagai. Therefore, Okayama should be careful because the rival could be different from the last time they faced the rival.

In the 18th minute, Ishige tried to open the score. In the 26th minute, Mitchell Duke failed to take a lead. In the 30th minute, Uejo nearly made an opener, crossed by LEE Yong-Jae. In the 38th minute, Abe's header was off target. The first ended in a scoreless tie.

Former Fagiano ace forward, Akamine can be the one to watch out for. This veteran knows well about Okayama so that the red-uniformed men are required to take care of him with an extra care.

Afterwards, the visitors were forced mostly to play on their own side. In the 33rd minute, Uejo's attempt was off target. In the 35th minute, Okayama conceded an opening goal. In the 39th minute, Uejo almost equalized the game.

On August 2nd, Okayama faced J League division 1 club, Nagoya Grampus.  This match, some fresh players were placed in the starting line-up such as veteran goal keeper, Kanayama and an experienced forward, Yamamoto.


During the match, Okayama aggressively kept pushing forward. However, they struggled to smash the net. While, the red-uniformed men conceded an opening goal. They were not able to equalize the match before the break.

After the break, head coach, Arima sent a new signing, Ishige to change the game, but the game remained the  same and he was replaced at the end of the match due to an expected accident. As a result, Okayama lost the ticket to the next round.

Emperor's cup 2021:The club make the next step over Tokyo Verdy

The long-waited Emperor's cup finally began. It's been two years since the last time the club took part in the competition.It is known that the cup winner is qualified to AFC Champions League. Since Okayama belong to the division 2 now, this is an only chance for the club to secure the qualification.


On June 16th, the red-uniformed men visited Ajinomoto Field against Tokyo Verdy. In the league campaign, Okayama were defeated by Tokyo on June 5 so that this time, they were expected to make a revenge.


On that day, Okayama's head coach, Arima placed some fresh men in the starting line-up. During the match, the  red-uniformed men aggressively kept pushing forward. During the second half, Noguchi smash the net with a  superb opener. While, Okayama's defenders made efforts for a clean sheet. As a result, the visitors successfully advanced to the next round.
